Cindy Squires, Chief Counsel of Public Affairs and Director of Regulatory Affairs, is responsible for monitoring and working with the federal and state agencies on behalf of the recreational boating industry. Cindy works with regulatory agencies to ensure that programs, initiatives and regulations are complementary with NMMA’s vision to make boating the number one choice in recreation. As Chief Counsel for Public Affairs, Cindy develops legal publications for NMMA members, oversees NMMA’s involvement in litigation, and assists NMMA’s legislative staff on legislative projects. Cindy has served on the National Boating Safety Advisory Council Strategic Planning Panel and has advised the U.S. Coast Guard on its efforts to develop boater education legislation.

Prior to joining the NMMA staff in 2003, Cindy practiced environmental and administrative law at Beveridge & Diamond, P.C., one of the nation’s premier environmental law firms. While attending law school, Cindy served as legislative liaison and regulatory analyst at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing Service. Cindy also worked as a U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee staffer for then Chairman Senator Patrick Leahy.

Cindy graduated cum laude from the Washington College of Law, American University and is admitted to the bar in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Cindy has her B.A. in International Relations from George Mason University. A Wyoming native, Cindy spends her spare time enjoying the outdoors with her son and husband.
